One house, many stories.
Glassware, postcards of Hungarian settlements, antique books and stories from Kakas és Gólya bookshop: Péter Pál’s personal cultural world.

Hospitality has a personal story.
The shared spaces, corridors and rooms at Péter Pál evoke the early twentieth century. Old benches, chairs, tables and wall cupboards, together with the owner’s collections, give the house its personal character.
Beer mugs, corkscrews and hospitality objects, glassware, postcards of Hungarian settlements, antique books and furniture: each object opens a different door. A travel memory, a changed street or a bookbinder’s work can bring the past closer.
01 · GLASSWARE AND TRAVEL MEMORIES
Travel memories engraved in glass.
A souvenir glass can preserve more than a place name. Engraved views, coloured panels and a personal monogram on this Balatonfüred piece connect travel, craftsmanship and memory.
The collector’s story leads into the world of historic spa culture. These glasses are also a way to explore hospitality and personal travel memories: what did people bring home, and why did they keep it?
02 · PLACES AND PERSONAL STORIES
Hungary,
postcard by postcard.
The owner’s postcard collection represents almost every Hungarian settlement. The cards preserve streets, buildings and everyday places — including details that look very different in today’s townscapes.
The Veszprém examples are more than old views. Handwriting, addresses and postal marks survive on the reverse: small traces of who sent news, when, and to whom.

A PERSONAL CONNECTION
What did your
hometown look like?
The collection can be a starting point for a local-history conversation. Ask in advance about a particular settlement’s postcard and whether it can be viewed.
03 · ANTIQUE BOOKS AND FURNITURE
More than reading:
a past you can hold.
An old book tells a story beyond its words. Its binding, paper and decoration reveal another period’s taste and craftsmanship. The floral binding of this Anatole France volume and its wooden bookstand bring that physical world closer.
Books also connect with the history of bookselling, printing and bookbinding. At the guesthouse, antique furnishings give a stay a personal setting filled with stories.
04 · VESZPRÉM’S BOOK CRAFTS
A bookbinding workshop remembered in a new setting.
The green Art Nouveau doors appear alongside books and collection objects in the bookshop’s photographs. The collector preserves in them a memory of the Georgi family’s former bookbinding workshop.
Postcards of Veszprém’s old bookshops give this story its city setting. A shop sign or window detail offers a glimpse of how the town encountered books and printed culture.
KAKAS ÉS GÓLYA ANTIQUARIAN BOOKSHOP
Books, postcards and encounters.
At Dózsa György utca 3, Kakas és Gólya brings together books, postcards and the pleasure of collecting. Its introduction includes literature, specialist books, a glass collection and temporary exhibitions.
Its cultural ambition also centres on encounters: making space for creative people, specialists and conversations about their work. The Facebook page shares object stories and book-launch news. Consult it for current announcements.
Discovery can be part of your stay.
For a reading circle, local-history club or culturally curious group, the house’s personal character can add another connection to a stay of several nights in Veszprém. Books, postcards and travel memories offer shared topics alongside city visits and excursions.
Please ask in advance by phone about viewing the collections and whether a group introduction can be arranged. Visiting times, conditions and which objects can be shown need individual agreement.
Object photographs and stories featured here are sourced from the Kakas és Gólya bookshop’s Facebook page.
